Are you setting your children up for failure or success?

We are their leaders.

We may be able to be their friends.

First though, we are their guides.

While we help you deal with how you budget your time, you must lead your children in the same direction.

While children are under 13, we are probably in full charge of their schedule - What sports do they play, which friends they see, what school they go to... They have more 'say so' as they grow towards 16 and get their driver's permit, but still they will live with our guidance.

"Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you."

Robert Fulghum.

Be the change you wish to see in your household. Be the change you wish your children to carry forward. You are more powerful than you know. When you are relaxed, organized and feeling fulfilled, your children will feel that, and when you are stressed and anxious they will also feel it.

Here a few ideas to help you lead your children:

  • Make sure there's an overall weekly schedule - this will help both you and your kids!

  • Give them more responsibility around the house - daily/weekly chores

  • Give them a small allowance each week and guide them towards saving 50% and spending 50% - Help them learn the importance of saving from a young age!

On Children - Kahlil Gibran

Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
